We are out of Ken Patrick Trail and ready to make our descent into the Grand Canyon! Oh, wait… Let’s stop by the truck and have some breakfast. There is a toilet nearby, let’s wait for that morning poop. Maybe we forgot something in the truck? Let’s unpack and repack our gear once or twice. You never can be too sure, especially when you’re about to step off onto an adventure where people die every year.

And don’t forget to brush your teeth!

I’m pretty sure this is a picture of Horseshoe Mesa, where we went camping last time. This is how I picture the Grand Canyon, but there are so many other views that look so different. Anyways, we were super excited to finally go down into the canyon!

Look at how green it is from the North Rim! I was just so amazed at all the trees and vegetation. It almost makes you forget you’re in the desert and rapidly dehydrating…

Totally chill rattlesnake ignoring us while it crossed the trail.

Here we are! The first campsite IN the canyon! My boots are shot, my feet are killing me, we passed a rattlesnake on the way in, and my family is discussing turning back tomorrow instead of finishing the hike because of me. Ummmm, HELL NO! I didn’t travel all this way to quit in the first couple miles because of wrecked boots and bruised feet. To be fair, we are only about 6.4 miles from the North Rim and it wouldn’t kill me to turn around. My feet hurt. I mean, really hurt, and I know they are only going to get worse. This is that moment when I have to look in my signal mirror and decide who I am. Yup. There it is! I’m a lot of things, but I’m not a quitter.
